Monsters Of The American Cinema

After the sudden death of his husband, Remy Washington, a Black man, finds himself the guardian of both the Good Time Drive-In movie theatre and his husband’s white teenage son, Pup.
Bonded by their shared love of classic monster movies, Remy and Pup’s relationship is put to the test when Remy discovers troubling footage on Pup’s video camera.
Christian St. Croix has written a haunting and heartening drama about fathers and sons, queerness and loss, and the monsters inside of us.
This process was a joy from beginning to end, starting with my love of monster movies and continuing with the nuanced movement and emotional depth we discovered in the rehearsal room. To tie it all together, sound & projections designer Doug Borntrager and I worked closely to weave remixed clips of iconic monster scenes and lofi beats that shifted and changed as the connection between the two characters was broken and then rebuilt.
